The strike action that started in the University Of Buea, Wednesday, April 27, is continuing today, Thursday with students clashing with riot-police.The students regrouped this morning and attempted to march to the Governor's office, but they were blocked by the combat ready police.
Police Raiding Student Residential Neighbourhood
They decided to sit on the tarmac but the police started pouring teargas on them. The students went wild and mounted barricades on the road. The result was a fierce confrontation.
Some students suffered serious injury. The Post also saw a policemen being rushed to the hospital with blood oozing from a wound on his head.
Southwest Governor, Thomas Ejake Mbonda, who arrived on the scene was blocked by the students. He tried to force his way back in his office, with the help of the police to no avail.The students were inflating. Reinforcement was called.
The police used water canon and teargas to break the barricade. The students replied by destroying newly erected lamp ports on the ridge of the boulevard. The confrontation might persist as students are said to be regrouping in the neighbourhood.
